Ex-food service worker at DJJ-contracted program arrested over sex with boy

A former food service worker at a residential youth program near Ocala is accused of sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy.

Now the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is looking for other possible victims.

Emily Amber Fitzgerald is being held in the Marion County Jail on a charge of sexual battery.

A sheriff’s detective says the 41-year-old Lady Lake woman admitted to abusing several boys at the Center for Success and Independence-Ocala. It’s a mental health and substance abuse program under contract with the Department of Juvenile Justice.

One boy told investigators Fitzgerald approached him last May or June.

She got him to expose himself in the freezer during a game of “truth or dare,” he said, and weeks later they had sex in the pantry.

She flirted with him often, he said, gave him special privileges and told him not to tell or they’d both get in trouble.

Fitzgerald left the job in September. And the boy’s allegation came to light when a manager at the program reported it to the Sheriff’s Office.
